After the success of 2003 and 2005, we are getting ready for 2009!
Fernandina Beach is a small, very friendly town on beautiful Amelia Island on the Atlantic. From the Amelia river on the west side to the beaches on the east side is just 2 miles. With many cafés and restaurants for all budgets.

We expect teams from all over the USA and Canada but also hope for teams from overseas. Remember in 2005 it was a French team, Jean-Pierre & Michel, who won.
To overseas players we suggest to start looking for flights. We did some simulations on Opodo.com, Expedia.com, and USAirways.com for flying in on Nov 12/13 and returning Nov 16/17 and came up with these sample roundtrip fares:
from Paris CDG: 550 € / from Brussels BRU: 366 € / from Amsterdam AMS: 474 € / from Frankurt FRA: 490 € / from London LGW: £ 365 .... Maybe we can use the forum here on petanque.org to share attractive fares from other countries.
In some cases a cheaper alternative may be to fly into Orlando (3 hrs from Amelia) and then drive up. If you want to take the opportunity to visit Florida, you can also fly into Miami (6 hrs from Amelia).
Lodging will be no problem at all. November is low season and no other events are planned that weekend. Lots of hotels and bed & breakfasts in all price ranges. If you're coming with a group of 4 or more, cottages on the beach are plentiful ànd affordable.
Amelia Island is known as the "Isle of 8 Flags" because since 1562 eight different flags have flown over it:
France, Spain, Britain, Spain (again), the Patriots of Amelia Island, the Green Cross of Florida, Mexico, the Confederate States, and finallly - 300 years later - the United States.
Let's try to beat that record with players from at least 9 countries. The more, the merrier!.

Petanque America
Last night the regular boules (or petanque) players at the Rivonia Sports Club encountered over 1000 African National Congress Youth League (the ANC is the ruling party in South Africa)members who had congregated to register for their national general council at the sports club. The participants provided a noisy and crammed backdrop to our normal sedate afternoon's play.
This year's Pétanque tournament in Amelia Island Florida is going to be documented by an independent film production group called UBKStudios. They are a group of low budget independent film makers from Chicago. They first learned about the game while traveling to Cannes France as part of the Cannes Film Festival. The short documentary about Pétanque, "Ludo", won an award for best Cinematography at the Real Ideas Studio Festival.
Carter Ingram from Novato, California has an excellent hobby: He makes haind-painted Cochonnets. Have a look, and think: Would you risk one of these babies by throwing a boule at it?
petanque.org is actually one of the oldest user-driven websites on the internet today. When we started up in 1997 there was no plan, it all started with a group of web-designers and programmers that enjoyed drinking beer at the local pub. However we realized that drinking beer was not a good excuse to leave home at any given time, we needed a better plan. Or just simply a plan.
Every time you look at a webpage, the address of the page is remembered. Forever. And out most visited page in the last couple of months has not been about pastis, petanque, france or anything like that. Apparently you are all very interested in French fashion! And small furry animals..
