Thanks to Jeffrey Widen we have the beginning of a new section here at petanque.org. It is all about tactics and strategy. To decide when to shoot, when not to shoot and when to point is sometimes more important that the actual shot itself.
This is a small start on what can hopefully become a helpful part of our service . All readers are encouraged to send us more on the subject, or to participate in our tactics forum
This is what Jeffrey Widen had to say about the subject:
I have found wonderful information on the various ways to throw/roll/lob a boule.
But I have not found any strategy for particular boule placement during a match.
When to Point? when to Shoot? Where to place your boule?
I have searched the internet for these written tactics, and though they may exist in French,
There is nothing available (freely) in English.
Until now...
Attached is the first installment for boule placement and gameplay. I invite my fellow Petanque players to add-to these and/or correct my opinions. In the end, we shall all learn more, and play at a better level.
Our thanks to Jeffrey Widen for starting this section of in a very good way, please help us out with your own experiences and comments.
So what are you waiting for? Head over to the strategy section now!
